Engineering and Technology are Key to Solving Climate Change Challenges, Asserts EKSU VC
The Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, has affirmed that Engineering and Technology hold the crucial key to effectively addressing the enormous challenges posed by climate change.
Professor Ayodele made the assertion in his opening address at the 5th International Conference of the Faculty of Engineering, which was held under the theme: ADVANCING ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY FOR A RESILIENT AND SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.
Focus on Excellence, Research, and Global Relevance
The Vice Chancellor used the conference as an opportunity to laud the Faculty of Engineering for its outstanding record of excellence, discipline, and commitment to expanding the frontiers of engineering education in alignment with global best practices.
Recognition of Global Scholars and Alumni
- Dr. Omojola Awogbemi: Professor Ayodele commended Dr. Awogbemi for his remarkable achievement of being ranked among the top two percent of scientists globally in the subfield of Energy, noting that the honour is a collective reflection of the Faculty’s global relevance.
- Engr. Dipo Bamisaye: The immediate past President of the EKSU Global Alumni Association was also praised for his exemplary leadership and significant efforts in strengthening the bond between the Alumni and the University.
Conference Goals and Institutional Support
The Dean and host of the conference, Professor I. B. Oluwafemi, described the event as timely, serving as a platform not only to showcase research but also to cross-pollinate ideas and innovations. He expressed optimism that the conference would inspire collaborative efforts in applying engineering ingenuity toward building sustainable societies.
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee announced that the Faculty received over 80 high-quality research submissions from scholars across Nigeria and beyond, encouraging participants to leverage the opportunity for knowledge exchange.
Gratitude to Ekiti State Governor
Professor Ayodele expressed profound gratitude to the Visitor to the University and Governor of Ekiti State, **His Excellency, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji**, for his unwavering support and financial assistance, which has been instrumental in helping the University meet its financial obligations, particularly the timely payment of staff salaries.
