NUC Approves B.Sc. Mechatronics Engineering & 6 New Courses for EKSU: Apply for 2025/2026 Admission!
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted a major approval to Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, for the immediate commencement of seven (7) new academic programmes in full-time mode.
This approval follows the successful outcome of the NUC's May 2025 Resource Verification Visit, confirming EKSU's compliance with national academic standards in terms of human and material resources.
Mechatronics Engineering & New Agricultural Programmes
The news, conveyed in a letter dated 17th July 2025, represents a significant milestone in EKSU's expansion drive, particularly in specialized technology and critical agricultural fields.
The newly approved programmes are:
- B.Sc. Mechatronics Engineering (A cutting-edge program combining mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering)
- B.Sc. Agricultural Economics
- B.Sc. Agricultural Extension and Rural Development
- B.Sc. Animal Science
- B.Sc. Crop Science
- B.Sc. Horticulture and Landscape Management
- B.Sc. Soil Science
Prospective students can now apply for admission into these newly approved programmes starting from the 2025/2026 academic session.
EKSU Management Reacts to NUC Milestone
The Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, hailed the approval as "a dream come true" and a reflection of the university’s commitment to expanding educational frontiers to meet the evolving needs of contemporary society.
He extended appreciation to the key stakeholders driving the university's growth, including the Visitor to the university, His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, the Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, and the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Akin Oyebode.
Admission Requirements Overview
While specific cut-off marks for these new courses may be subject to the general EKSU Post-UTME guidelines (minimum 150 UTME score), candidates interested in the B.Sc. Mechatronics Engineering program should typically meet the following UTME and O'Level requirements common to Engineering disciplines:
O'Level Subject Requirements (For Mechatronics Engineering)
Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) credit passes in the relevant subjects at not more than two (2) sittings, which MUST include:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- One (1) other Science subject
UTME Subject Combination (For Mechatronics Engineering)
Candidates must have sat for the following subjects in the UTME:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
Candidates for the Agricultural Sciences programmes must have the relevant five (5) O'Level credits, typically including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agric Science, and one other science subject.
